Hollywood High School’s Winter Formal dance was supposed to take place this upcoming Saturday at the school’s blacktops. Unfortunately, the dance was recently cancelled due to the lack of sales in tickets. There must be a minimum presale of 150 tickets to hold the event, but with only 4 days left until the dance, there was a maximum of 56 tickets sold. Fortunately, whoever bought a ticket will be able to receive a full refund at the student store.
For many it was a shocking surprise that Winter Formal was cancelled, seeing that it is almost as traditional as the Homecoming dance which takes place each year. Although many students admitted that they planned to buy their ticket last-minute at the door, its’ cancellation may also represent a recent decrease in the student body’s school spirit. It has come to the attention of many upperclassmen that the school spirit is not as relevant as it once was during their underclassmen years. “Everything at school seemed more fun back then. There was a lot more hype for the dances and even spirit Fridays. I miss it,” said TCA senior Jonathan Mendoza.
Although Winter Formal was cancelled, there is a great chance at one more attempt to hold a school dance very soon. A Spring Fling dance may be coming up with high hopes that Hollywood students buy their tickets during the pre-sale.
