The Los Angeles Times festival of books, taking place this Saturday Apr.18 and 19, will be hosting young adult fiction panels, HS Insider panels, a performance by The Trojan Marching Band, panels with authors like Jason segel, billy idol and much more.

The festival will take place in the University of Southern California campus and starts at 10:00a.m. both Saturday and Sunday but ends at 6:00p.m. Saturday and 5:00p.m. on Sunday. The festival is free as well as all of the events, for the indoor panels you need tickets but tickets are free as well. Attendees may buy a Super Pass for $200. The pass includes admission and early access to all panels (no ticket needed), valet parking for each day of the event, two book prize tickets, a poster, a tote bag, a mug and access to a private respite area with beverages and seating.

Selected Books published in 2014 are put into 10 different categories and winners of those categories are announced as Robert Kirsch Award Winners. The award ceremony will take place Saturday Apr.18 at 6:30p.m. in Bovard auditorium on the USC campus.

The festival also offers 3 “after dark” events: The spoken world, Book drop bash, and Literary Death match. The latest event ending at 11:30p.m. Literary Death Match has become a popular event where, according to the Los Angeles Times website, “four authors to read their most electric writing for seven minutes or less before a panel of three all-star judges. After each pair of readers, the judges take turns spouting hilarious, off-the-wall commentary — in the categories of literary merit, performance and intangibles — then select their favorite to advance to the finals. The two finalists then compete in a vaguely literary competition to determine who takes home the Literary Death Match crown.”
