Unfinished Movie?

Unfinished business… That is exactly what this movie was. While the movie was indeed finished, it felt like it was halfway done, with not enough effort put into the writing and acting. The premise of the movie was that Dan Trunkman played by Vince Vaughn, a small-business owner accompanied by his only two employees Timothy McWinters played by Tom Wilkinson and Mike Pancake played by Dave Franco all go on a business trip to seal a major deal and it all just falls apart. That is where the plot to this movie ends.

Every next scene in this movie is just set up for the next joke about inappropriate activity or any number of vulgar topics. These “laughs” are cheap laughs that tried to get people to laugh just for cursing or saying a vulgar word. This movie also tried to have a meaning and attack the social issues of bullying and how social media is making the problem worse. Although this is a decent message to have, it seemed completely out of place in this movie as the emotional scenes that Dan has with his family are seen as filler for a movie that does not require a “heartfelt” narrative.
The way that this movie goes about this is insulting to think they can shoehorn a random issue to pitifully get good ratings and get recommended as a “movie that makes you laugh, but is heartfelt.”
There was also an unnecessary amount of nudity in this movie as it served absolutely no purpose, and in some scenes did not even make sense other than the writers just felt the need to get an awkward situation in to make it funny. There were only a couple of jokes that evoked any sort of laughter from me, which is pretty poor considering that this movie is a comedy.

This movie was just watching Dan act like he cares about his children and then party the next second. It just went back and forth between partying and caring about his kid’s bullying problems. The movie wanted me to feel bad for these characters, but I had absolutely no connection with them and did not care what happened to them. I do not recommend this movie unless you want to see Dave Franco awkwardly deliver lines, and see Vince Vaughn party with Tom Wilkinson. Spend the $10 you would spend on a movie ticket and buy some food or watch another movie.
