The grand opening of The Stand, run by Leadership, was on Monday, Mar. 9, in the quad. Students were welcome to get free, cut up fruit left over from breakfast in the classroom. The stand also included a table that provided as an activity center. The week of Mar. 9 through Mar. 13 will be a trial run, and if this is successful, it will continue every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The idea was first introduced by Assistant Principal, Samuel Dovlatian, to bring a solution to the leftover fruit that students were not eating. This is in hopes that students will now consume more fruit, if it is shown to them in an appealing manner. This will also satisfy the hunger leftover from the morning.

“I want students to experience a farmers market experience,” said Dovlatian. “During nutrition, students get hungry and by making fruit more appealing, like making smoothies, juices and honey toppings, they will consume more fruit.”

The Stand is not just for the benefit of eating fruit. Part of The Stand is the table which will serve as an activity center where students can purchase products from the student store and promote club related events. This also allows leadership to work with students and develop their job related skills when working with customers and money.

“The Stand can act as a venue where students can promote events like blood drives, dances, events, ticket sales and club promotion,” said Dovlatian. “I want The Stand to be an activity center run by students, for students.”

If the trial week runs smoothly, The Stand will sell school merchandise (Hollywood hats, stickers, face painting and sweaters) for the future.
