When it comes to graduation requirements, completing service hours is a must. Each student, no matter what SLC, are depended upon completing these hours in order to walk the stage. Most SLC’s require the minimum of 16 hours, but not all students might have the drive to do so because community service sounds like a turnoff when it comes to having fun. However, it can be more fun than one would think, so do not fret because here are a couple of options for you to consider when it comes to volunteering.
Head out and consider volunteering at the Ronald McDonald house on Fountain and Sunset just one block away from the Vermont and Sunset station. This nonprofit organization is always looking for people to help out. As a volunteer one would play with the kids who are staying there. It’s really an amazing experience, so why not make it a great experience for two.
Another option would be the small church on Sunset and Wilton, which is also always looking for people to volunteer. This church usually needs people on Friday and Saturday in order to help donate food, clothes, and other things to the homeless.
Love taking care of kids? Well in that case go back to your middle and elementary schools and volunteer with L.A.C.E.R or LA’s Best to give a helping hand.
If you are not comfortable volunteering by yourself, then the alternative choice would be to join a community service club at school. Clubs that are known for volunteering are both CSF and Key Club. Key Club is known for participating their service in many things like beach and parks clean ups, aids walk, and much more.
So there it is. Seniors your clock is ticking and you do not have much time left to complete these hours. As for underclassmen, do not procrastinate. Take a head start and enjoy giving a hand to your community. Whatever your preference is, just know there is always something there for you to do in the world.
