The senior assembly that took place sixth period on Friday held important information regarding upcoming senior events and monetary due deadlines.Ms.Payne, senior counselor, started off by announcing that the senior class of 2015 will in fact graduate at the Hollywood Bowl on June 2, as long as they pay their senior dues on time, which is 50 dollars and is included in the “Graduate” packet. Two days prior to the graduation, all-day rehearsals will be held and one on the same day.Students were told to see Payne or Brandy about all cap and gown inquiries.Further, there will be an event called Achieve the Honorable in which students will receive cords based on their academic standing.
Regarding senior dues, Payne said she does not “expect your parents to reach out of their pocket and give you another 50 dollars” therefore; she will have fundraiser materials in her office on Monday. Students must fill out a form to get the fundraiser catalog. The catalog includes a variety of snacks, all about six dollars, and students participating are expected to sell a certain number of items before March 6, the deadline in order to secure the Bowl.
An upcoming event is the Senior Breakfast which will be held at Dave and Busters on February 20th.Slips are available at the student store or the counseling office and are to be given to Ms.Payne by Friday 13th.Students are to meet there before eight am according to Payne. Also, power-cards will be on sale this week for either 10 or 20 dollars. The cards will allow students to play games for a certain amount of time.Note, only seniors who have purchased a package may attend the breakfast.
The topic that received the most commotion was Prom.Tickets will begin to sell March 16 for $95, but the price will rise as the weeks go by. Unfortunately, Mrs. Payne also said that there might only be 150 prom tickets available due to excessive purchases of “The Graduate” from the senior packet, which include one or two prom tickets. She said that last year, “Prom sold out in the first two weeks…,” so she suggests to buy them as soon as possible.
Mrs. Brown ended the meeting by telling the students to take out their phones and to go onto www.campussteps.com. She said that with this website students are able to use it as a pass to the college center, receive important emails and communicate with Mrs. Brown herself. “We’re going into the digital age,” she said.
