Arabian Nights has been actively integrated into Performing Arts Magnet academic classes this week. PAM teachers joined together to make up lesson plans centered around the play. Students in PAM classes decorated for the play by making Arabian themed lanterns that dangle on stage and light up when the play opens.
These lesson plans lead up to a “teaser” presentation this Thursday Nov. 20 in which all 6th period PAM classes will attend in hopes of bringing more students out for the opening night Dec. 4.
Jessica Williams, arts integration specialist, is in charge of this program and wishes to gain one collaborative unit using Arabian nights as a theme. “I think this is a first step for the performing arts magnet, and there has been great success that I have witnessed as I made observations,” Williams said. “I think that this is a good step towards trying to do this a little bit more with a different play or maybe a dance recital or using something of a connection that we can all get around.”
Principal Sanchez and Dr. Keislar agree that Arabian Nights promotes success and is beneficial for PAM. There is a possibility that this will not be the last time the Performing Arts Magnet will merge their academic classes with the arts.
