Friday’s pep rally was not just any ordinary pep rally. It was the last one of the school year and the last one for our Class of 2015.
Their first pep rally was in 2011 where it was held outside on the field rather than in the auditorium because of construction. That year they were the freshmen that were booed at. Now the tables have turned and this year’s seniors have forgotten all about being underclassmen.
A recap of the pep rally includes all the spring sports in order of appearance: Boy’s Volleyball, Softball, Baseball, Swim, Track (who were not there because they had a meet), Girl’s Basketball, Boy’s Basketball, SRLA, Girl’s Soccer, and Boy’s Soccer. Each of the teams represented their senior players in their honor.
It must be both exciting and scary for our seniors. With the pep rally done they are one step closer to graduation. Senior and C/SGT Major Jairo Mejia from TCA said, “I felt sad because it’s going to be the last one. I remember being a freshmen and getting booed at.” Hear that freshman? You might feel bad now because you’re getting booed at, but once you’re a senior you’re going to feel sad because it’s your last. Senior Laura Moreno from swim believes that with every year our pep rallies have been improving. “It was a bittersweet moment. I got emotional towards the end because after four years of being on the swim team, I realize how much I’m going to miss Hollywood,” she said. Alexa Guzman, Senior cheerleading captain from NMA said, “I was pretty emotional because it’s my last time performing for my school but I’m glad that it went better than expected.” “I am more sad than happy because I’m gone after this but in a sense I felt relieved because I was beyond proud of my team,” she said.
Now we all got to see the fantastic band, wonderful cheerleaders and our amazing drill team perform, but many people left once the band started to play. Hollywood Live, as they call themselves, played Fall Out Boy’s song “For Centuries”, but unfortunately everyone was set on leaving and not many stuck around to see them perform because the bell had already rung. “Playing at the pep rally was awesome,” said drummer of the band Sabrina Houde. “I do expect to play next year. At least I hope to. It’ll be my last year (because I’ll be a senior), so I want it to be special,” she said.
On top of that, many students also missed the big “thank you” that leadership presented to the one and only Lloyd Ea for his tremendous contributions to the pep rallies.
Down below is a short video to a quick recap.
