The Age of Adaline stars Blake Lively as Adaline, Michiel Huisman as Elis, and Harrison Ford as William Jones. This romance movie begins with unknown narration introducing one extraordinary woman: Adaline Bowman, who after an accident is now immune to aging. The movie started showing Friday 24.
Directed by Lee Krieger this movie takes the audience through the troubles of Adaline who has to constantly change names for fear of being hunted down to be made into a science experiment. Adaline lives a quiet life with her dog, she does have a daughter but due to her hiding she refrains from meeting with her daughter too often. Once Adaline realized after her accident that she would never age she realizes she can’t tell anyone and gives up on love because without the promise of a future she decides love is really just heartbreak.
The other main characters come into play as Adaline’s love interests; Elis being the guy she just met and is reluctantly falling in love with and William being Elis’ father whom Adaline met and fell in love with in the 60s. Their story is the main conflict of the movie other than Adalines own fear of attachment because she knows she won’t age.
The actors do a great job of filling their characters and Blake Lively perfectly acted out what a smart person who comes from different ideas or generations might have moved along with the times and reacted to our present. One thing to be said is that the narration, though not abundant, did get in the way of the story and characters. An audience needs to get acquainted with the movie’s characters but the narration rushed the story line and made it so it was harder for the audience to relate.
The movie is in the dramatic romance genre so if you’re looking for action don’t look here but if you’re into the sentimental mushy lovey Dovey stuff this movie should hit the spot.
