Prom is known for making that special someone feel like they have made a difference in life. High school becomes a fleeting moment when it is senior year. After three years of studying for school and working on college applications, prom should be a relaxing moment to let loose, but for guys it is way to hook up with girl, or girls if they feel lucky and then regret it later.
It has been X weeks or X months, you been with this girl and you want to show your affection. On Valentine’s Day, you give her flowers, balloons, and chocolate. On her birthday, you give her balloons and her favorite perfume or concert tickets. But prom is different, it is special.
For many girls, prom is a time for guys to become that handsome “Prince Charming.” Here are some tips to help you out:
Tip #1: Find that special someone and ask her. After a couple dates, you spend most of the day with them and everyone is used to you dating her. It can be nerve racking on how you want to approach her: publicly, secretly, directly, or indirectly. She is just as nervous as you are so just ask her, right now.
Tip #2: She may say, “You’re perfect the way you are” but it does not hurt to lose some weight. Make sure your workout is intense and eat healthier alternative to lose that extra five pounds of “baby fat.” Even if you are not a jock, you can be that someone she can show off to her friends.
Tip #3: Make sure you shower and put on deodorant. You love your aroma and you shower every (other) day. Maybe you spray AXE or Old Spice everyday. Instead, shower before prom to get the day smell off and if you want to spray something on you, spray body cologne, it smells nicer and it is something different to show that significant other you are not afraid to try something different.
Tip #4: Flowers? Traditionally, you would have to bring a corsage that matched her dress. These are totally optional but if you do want to give her one, then find a neutral color so that she cannot say it does not match her dress.
Tip #5: Condoms. So you do not end up with a surprise party gift.
Tip #6: Be suave, a romantic, or yourself. She put the effort to pick out a dress and find what works with her body. Complaints are crucial. Find something overwhelming about her dress and makeup then acknowledge it, but do not just notice one part of her outfit otherwise it will be awkward. She needs to hear it from you.
Tip #7: Save the chips and soda for the tickets. If you are paying for her ticket, it is to spend your weekends earning enough money for prom. Even have a bit of cash on you after prom will make the night even more special. Maybe take her to a romantic night on the town or, in case it gets worse, a way home.
Tip #8: Have fun. The main reason she is going to the dance with you is because she likes you. It is fine that you spend time with your friends. We do not have to worry about how we look, smell, or sound so try to make it a memorial dance.
