Thespian haunted house incorporates American Horror Story

To celebrate Halloween, the Thespian Club set up a haunted house that took up two classrooms and a lobby. The haunted house was made with great effort and attention to close detail.

The thespian club spent a whole entire month planning out the details for a haunted house. However, they did not start decorating until Friday the 24th of October. The haunted house created by the thespians themselves, managed to capture every season’s theme. Coven and Asylum were put together, while Murderhouse, Freakshow, and Bloody Mary were separated. Although the thespians did not include season 3, the rest of the seasons were made creatively. Some members stayed until 7:45 pm on Monday, the day before the opening night. “The hardest part was covering everything with trash bags” said Amber Floren, an actress for the haunted house.

On Tuesday opening night, the haunted house only received 25 dollars, meaning that only five people paid to get in. Melissa Navarro, president of the thespian club, explained that “it was not about the money as it was about bringing people together. This is something that hasn’t happened in a long time.”

Makeup artists worked meticulously on people’s faces. Some of the characters took two and a half hours to complete. The Thespian Club had four make up artists working with the actors. The haunted house was put into action in the small auditorium, room 503. As people walked in, they were told to sit down on chairs lined up on the stage and as they did, soft circus music played in the background and the ring leader appears and says, “Don’t touch my freaks and they won’t touch you.”

If you are a fan of the American Horror Story series, you would know that this part of the haunted house is the Freakshow theme. And as the ring leader finished talking, a range of weird characters popped out as everything became dark. This got people screaming and squirming.

After, the people were told to enter the Bloody Mary bathroom, where a girl in white crawled towards you twitching. Bloody Mary rushed the people out of the bathroom and onto the murder house where loud music played and actors dressed in black awaited to pop out and make you scream. The strobe lights made it even harder to see where they were coming.

At last the people had to go through the Asylum where the room was red due to the lights and actors in hospital gowns came after you making you run out of the haunted house as it was over. Almost everyone if not all came out smiling (out of relief?) knowing that they enjoyed themselves.
