Dia de los muertos is mainly a mexican holiday in which the dead is celebrated. In honor of this celebration, theaters welcomed The Book of Life. In the movie, a couple of students go on a school field trip to a museum in which Mary Beth, the tour guide, takes them to an exhibit in the works for the day of the dead. There she tells them a story about two spirits and three kids involved in a love triangle. The spirits include La Muerte, who runs the celebrated deceased world, and Xibalba, the spirit who runs the forgotten dead realm. Xibalba, upset with running the forgotten world, decides to propose an idea to La Muerte. Intrigued, La Muerte agrees to bet on 2 boys who can win the heart of Maria, a smart young girl. Although very different, Manolo and Joaquin try in their own ways to win Maria for themselves. Many years go by in which Maria leaves and the boys grow older and deal with the pressures of living up to family legacies. When Maria returns boys, now men, resume the competition for Maria until Manolo involves himself in a sneaky deal with Xibalba. Manolo enters the realm of the celebrated dead and with the help of his family, ventures out a plan to return to the main world for his love Maria.

With adventure, duels, courage, culture, and friendship, The Book of Life truly honors the dead as well as celebrates all elements of life all starting from a museum visit for Dia de los Muertos. It teaches those who do not know the meaning for Dia de los Muertos, the meaning and reasoning behind it.
