Students were cheering and standing on their seats as they supported their athletes during the Fall Pep Rally on Friday Nov. 7 after sixth period.

As students settled in, there was an entertaining video edited by Lloyd Ea, expressing the magic of video production and editing. Students laughed and cheered as usual as they got to watch some interesting edits and camera magic.

As the screen was lifted, students saw a brick castle on stage which resembled something out of a Super Mario videogame. Students watch as the Sheik enters accompanied by his Lady Sheik when suddenly, the Bernstein Dragon enters with two of his men as they kidnap the Lady Sheik! From the beginning of the show, students are given a reason to “slay those dragons.”

Cheer Coach Vanessa Gonzales opened up the show as the MC and introduced JROTC for the presentation of the colors. Each team was then introduced with empowering videos of the teams throughout their season, with songs just as empowering that pumped students with adrenaline and pride. Once the teams took the stage, the crowd cheered and supported them with bursts of energy. Volleyball, Cross Country, and Football felt the love and support their peers were giving them once on stage.

Varsity Cheer was introduced as the first performance of the rally. The cheerleaders encouraged the football team to “Beat Those Dragons.” The performance was definitely something to behold, and the student body responded with fierce support as they clapped, and recorded the cheer.

Dance Guard was next to perform, and students were excited, but confused as to why Dance Guard was not on stage, where everyone would have been able to see them. The crowd was still so eager to watch the performance that students stood from their seats, or on them, so they would not miss a single second of the group’s dance. The excitement and support for Dance Guard was clearly reflected in the student’s actions.

Drill team’s performance was interesting as students watched how in sync the girls were throughout the entire dance. The crowd was won over by the performance’s movements and facial expressions, which showed Drill Team’s unique style.

JV Cheer gave a performance that was just as energetic as that of their varsity counterparts. The crowd supported the girls, some of which were new to cheer and new to performing at the pep rally.

After the performance, football was given the stage for a final chant before the headed off into the “Battle for Sunset Blvd.” The student body stood and cheered for their team as some of the players gave some final words of inspiration and hope.

Chris Fernandez #11 on Varsity said that he could not promise that the team would win since winning and losing is all a part of the game, but he guaranteed the crowd that they would go and fight for that win.

“This is the game you all have been waiting for. We’ll bring it tonight for the seniors!” said Reese Rothenburg #3 on the Varsity team. All the encouragement really had the crowd cheering and stomping for the football team.

As the football team exited, students got to see the finale to the scene from earlier in the pep rally. The Dragon and Sheik face off in a small battle where our Sheik wins and rescues the Lady Sheik as he carries her off stage with the crowd cheering and yelling. The scene was meant to reflect how the Sheiks should go and fight to win against Bernstein.

The marching band came off right after and closed the show with an instrumental cover of “All I Do is Win” and of “The Cupid Shuffle.” It was all an amazing and entertaining thing to see as the crowd would stand, sing, and dance along to the band. As pep rally closed with the traditional roll call, it was clear that there was a new sense of “Sheik Pride” lingering in the air and radiating from the students.
