The SAS Students of the Month for May are Katrina Bernardo and Sergio Espejo, both juniors.
CC: What was your reaction when you heard you were chosen as Student of the Month?
SE: I was surprised and glad at the same time, and I was also thankful.
KB: I was very surprised, just the fact that so few students have been selected already. I was not expecting it.
CC: Why do you think you were chosen?
SE: I sometimes feel that I am not qualified because of my grades, but I just like to give my opinions. I also like to attend meetings for clubs.
KB: It’s because they’ve recognized my work and joining different clubs like SAS Brigade, Junior Class Council, CSF, and Leadership.
CC:What do you think makes a good student?
SE: Somebody who interacts with everybody, does not care about himself, and always has the desire for learning.
KB: I think that you have to balance everything out and studying things that are outside of curriculum, setting goals for yourself.
CC: Are there any people that inspire you?
SE: At the top of my head, I would have to say my mom, being a single parent.
KB: I am mostly self-motivated, but I would have to say my parents, since they have given me this attitude, I feel like it’s them.
CC: Do you have any tips to offer other students?
SE: Don’t give up on your goals, even if they seem silly.
KB: I think a lot of people worry about what others think of them, but you have to decide what you can do to please yourself. It’s not about how to please others.
CC: Where do you plan to go to college, and what do you plan to study there?
SE: I want to to go Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to study business and economics. I also want to visit the beach.
KB: After high school, I want to so into nursing. I am going to volunteer at Cedars-Sinai Hospital as a way of job shadowing and reaching out. I am also doing Camp CHLA.
