Prom Overview

The class of 2014’s Prom was held last Friday, on April 25th at the venue, Sofia Noor, themed ‘Party at the Gatsby’. It was a night to remember, young high school girls transformed to beautiful, sophisticated women, and dorky high school boys transformed to classy, well-suited men.
SAS, Senior, Manny Valencia, who won Prom King, said “It felt great to win Prom King. It was one of my highlights of the night. I don’t really know why I won Prom King, but I’m guessing I won because I’m very well-known with lots of people and I tend to talk to a lot of people. The good vibe everyone had was what made Prom special to me. Everyone was happy which kept the mood going. Overall, it was a great night. Truthfully, it just felt like another step in life.”
PAM, Senior, Sara Gabriela, who won Prom Queen, said “It felt weird to win Prom Queen, but good weird. I had people coming up to me telling me my reaction and facial expression was funny but I don’t remember because I was so confused. I think Prom landing on my birthday helped out the most, but putting forth a good attitude and not taking yourself too seriously, and really just being friendly helped out too. I decided to run for Prom Queen with the help of my friends, Summer and Nia.They both coaxed me into it because it was my birthday, and they thought it would be fun and if I happened to win, it would be a good story to tell years from now on how i spent my 18th birthday. Enclosing my high school year with prom was bittersweet. Knowing that you’re close to the end, and in less than 30 days you won’t see the people you’ve been seeing everyday for 4 years. Yet, you’re celebrating all you’ve been through, and the good times you’ve spent these last years all in one night. I guess what I’m trying to say is, it was a nice day to end my run at Hollywood High.”
SAS, Senior, Keiri Hernandez, said “Prom was great, it definitely was a night to remember. Everything about it was special, but seeing everybody let loose on the dance floor was the most fun. Prom was special because I was lucky enough to share it with some of the most important people in my life. Although I admit my expectations were influenced by the media, I wasn’t disappointed. It was everything I hoped it would be.”
PAM, Junior, Jennifer Capuz, said “I think what could’ve made Prom better was the DJ. What made Prom 2014 so special to me was that thanks to my wonderful date, Kyle, I got to go and spend a memorable day in his life. Prom was similar to the proms I’ve imagined in movies and books! The fact that it was Gatsby themed and then it began to rain a few minutes after Prom ended was actually awesome.”
