Welterweight boxer and “Dancing With the Stars” contestant Victor Ortiz visited Hollywood High on April 24 after school and adopted it. He partnered with SOSMentor, which is a program that was about college preparation and the like but now deals with decreasing childhood obesity through physical programs.
They’ve recently started a Healthy Athletes Program where a “Celebrity Ambassador” works to inspire the student athletes. The cheerleading squad and the “Extreme Sports” after school club are the two teams that are participating in the program.
He stayed in the cafeteria and took pictures with students and staff, signed autographs, and showed everyone his WBC belt. He also talked to the students about his life and his boxing and being on “Dancing on the Stars” and what he did there.
Students seem to enjoy seeing him and hearing what he had to say. “It was so cool because I’ve seen a couple of videos of him boxing as well as a couple of episodes of that season and I saw him there and to see him in person was pretty cool,” said Marlon De Silva, NMA sophomore.
