Students hosted an Open House for prospective students and their parents on April 5 to promote the school’s programs and courses. The Open House also included breakouts of various sessions in which the different SLCs presented their slide shows and films. The open house also featured a lively school activity fair, in which the sports teams and clubs were showcased, as well as demonstrations from marching band and cheer.
The open house began with a greeting and presentation from Principal Alejandra Sanchez in the auditorium. After attending the sessions, prospective students and their parents were led around campus by student-led tours.
“The purpose of it is to promote the school and see if anybody wants to attend,” says College Counselor Heather Brown, who organized the event. She also said that it was a good opportunity for these students and their parents to “meet teachers and students” and for the parents to “make informed decisions.”
JJ Tolibao, a student from Virgil Middle School, went to the Open House and is considering attending next year after seeing everything offered. “Everything here is new and different,” he said.
Katrina Bernardo, a junior who is a member of the SAS Brigade, said that the Open House will be a good way for students to get a feeling for the school. “ I hope that everything goes well, because this is a school worth going to,” she said. She also said that she remembered going to a similar event and seeing many apprehensive students, and this event enabled the students to become more comfortable.
“It’s a great way to showcase our wonderful programs to the community and to those interested in the school,” Brown said.
