Seniors will be presenting their senior projects in classrooms across campus on March 20.

Senior projects are a year-long assignment completed in English class. Students write a research paper on a topic of their choice, chosen at the beginning of their senior year. Then, they use what they have learned from the writing of their paper to apply it into the real world. Examples of a real world application could include volunteering, teaching, or even starting a club. Finally, they must present their project and application to a panel of judges.

Senior projects serve as a way for seniors to showcase all the skills they have learned throughout their years in high school while delving into a topic they are passionate about.

Some seniors participated in the Spring Wellness Fair held in the quad last week. The event allowed seniors to inform other students about their topic of interest. For example, a student that chose the topic of gun violence would’ve had a booth at the fair, informing other students about the dangers and impact of gun violence.

Creating and presenting a senior project is a requirement to graduate.

Notably, seniors in SAS are exempt from doing the senior project. The Class of 2024 were required to take AP Literature instead. Starting with the Class of 2025, SAS students will begin taking AP Capstone in lieu of the senior project. AP Capstone is a two-year diploma program that involves two AP courses: AP Seminar in junior year and AP Research taken in senior year.

There will be a minimum day schedule on Wednesday for those not presenting, with school ending at 1:15 p.m.
