With the arrival of a new year, people often reflect on the past and contemplate the future, particularly in the context of trends. The trend cycle is ever-evolving with items falling in and out of favor constantly–a pendulum shifting between dislike and like constantly. A recent trend that has been going viral on social media highlights this well. The “Ins and Outs” trend involves social media users creating lists of things that are “In” and things that are “Out” for 2024.
Things that are listed as “In” can include aspirations people have for the new year–like picking up a hobby or habit–predictions for what will be trendy, what someone wants to be trendy, or just something the creator of the list likes. On the other hand, things that are listed as “Out” can include habits people want to quit, predictions for trends that will likely fall out of style, or stuff people dislike.
