The Sheiks track and field team had an impressive run this season making it all the way to city prelims with some athletes even making it to city finals.
Impressive feats were made at the meet as athletes such as Tre Alexander Webb ran a 52.87 in the 400m, the second fastest time in Hollywood High history, only behind himself. Other impressive feats include the 4x100m team, Miguel Rodriguez, Adam Olayinka, Jake Stafford, and Tre Alexander Webb, who combined to run the race in 44.37 seconds, the fastest time in Hollywood High history.
Two athletes made it to city finals, Ronald Castillo and Mihrell Reece. Castillo, placing in 6th with a throw of 43’8. Reece will advance in high jump, placing in 8th with a jump of 4’10. Both athletes hope to compete for a city championship and win a medal next week.
This season was the most successful the track and field program has had in years having a staggering 16 athletes qualifying for the city prelims. The team also went undefeated in dual matchups, dominating their opponents.
Led by Rashaun Briggs, the coach has made great progress with the track program, repeatedly stating, “We’re here to build a program, so that years from now you can look back and say you started this.”
