Senior and Junior girls cannot wait any longer for this year’s powderpuff game. This year, the annual event will be at 5pm on June 3rd.
Powderpuff is an athletic activity in which girls play flag football. At Hollywood High, it has became a tradition to have the senior class and junior class play against each other.
The senior class feels like they have the full potential to take on the juniors this year.
TCA Senior, Tamia Black said, “Well I feel as if it gives us a chance to be able to connect with each other. I know we are trucking each other but it’s fun trust. Don’t get me wrong knowing you have friends on the other team makes it hard but it’s just a game. We practice hard and we’re very into the game so don’t get it twisted #SeniorGotThatDub.”
Unfortunately there has been rumors that the event coordinators and referees make sure the seniors win every year. However, the juniors the least bit intimidated.
NMA Junior, Valorie Rodriguez said, “It doesn’t matter if the game is rigged or not this year, we, juniors are going to give it our all no matter if we win or lose.”
The girls have been practicing, learning plays, and discovering new football tactics to have a successful game. With the help of junior and senior football players each team has had the opportunity to gain knowledge and confidence about football. The girls will have 14 days of practice until the day of.
Although this event takes place every year, this year it is a little different. This year the Leadership class has made arrangements for music, food, and snacks. The event will be sponsored by Jamba Juice, A Pinch of Flavor (a food truck), and a radio station.
The game will begin at 5pm this year and will be open to the public. In the past years this event began earlier, however since it is open to the public it has been scheduled for a later time. Presale tickets have began for $2, there will be a higher charge the day of in the entrance.
This event will be the last event to take place this school year, not including graduation. Therefore it would be great to have the student body together one last time to enjoy the feeling of Sheik pride.
And for the seniors, enjoying a fruit smoothie and tacos with your group of friends, watching girls play flag football sounds like a great way to kick back before leaving high school.
