The clear, blue skies and breezy atmosphere brings an enchanting feeling of autumn, along with exciting college applications rush. The first SAT of the school year took place at various school campuses on Saturday, Oct. 3. The rigorous test was mostly taken by seniors, who took this last chance to boost their scores as much as possible before submitting their college applications.
From catching up with their school work, working part-time jobs ‘til midnight, and keeping everything in balance, seniors may feel overwhelmed with responsibilities, yet they gave up their precious Saturday mornings to finalize their scores.
Students prepare for the SAT with multiple techniques but the most common are: making stacks of vocabulary cards and answering questions from big prep books. The SAT not only requires students to have critical thinking and arithmetic skills but also expect them to implement those skills when taking the diagnostic test.
According to the College Board, which administers the test, the SAT also provides the opportunity for scholarships, place out of certain college courses, and learn more about their academic strengths and weaknesses.
It is highly recommended for students to start preparing ahead of time so they won’t have to procrastinate and stress out. But remember, colleges aren’t only interested in good SAT scores; they are mostly interested in students themselves and how they’ll impact their schools. So for those who are taking the upcoming SAT, the time and effort given does not go to a waste; in fact, a little patience goes a long way.
