The month of April is designated as National Volunteer Month. High school students have the opportunity to rejoice for the entire month by getting involved in their local community. Los Angeles has amazing volunteer opportunities for high school students.

Community Event at Santa Monica Beach Dune Project April 13

Join The Bay Foundation in volunteering for the Santa Monica Beach Dune Project from 9 am – 11 am. Get involved in dune ecology and make a difference in the community by eliminating non-native plants and fostering increased biodiversity.

Create Care Kits for the Homeless (Remote) April 11 & April 25

If you’re too busy to volunteer in person, L.A Works offers high school students a chance to assemble care kits for the homeless from home. These care kits should contain hand sanitizer, soap, shampoo, cleansing wipes, new clothing items, blankets, non-perishables, water, and a handwritten note.

Earth Day Cleanup at the LA River April 20

Don’t miss out on Los Angeles Waterkeeper’s Earth Day Cleanup along the LA river. From 9 am to 11 am. During this experience you will remove debris from the river. Making it a healthier and more beautiful place for everyone to enjoy.

Earth Month Volunteering at the Arroyo Farm Lab April 20

Another great opportunity provided by LA Works is the farm-to-school learning hub with gardening at the Arroyo Farm Lab. In partnership with California Climate Action Corps, their mission is to enhance the environmental justice efforts of its partners to help underserved communities affected by climate change. Along with this, they aim to introduce students to urban agriculture, environmental sciences, and nutrition.

Support Open Streets at CicLAvia- Venice Blvd April 21

CicLAvia returns on Sunday, April 21. Presented by Metro, this event is from 9 am to 4 pm.

CicLAvia offers students a variety of locations to volunteer at. A volunteer hub at Venice Blvd, Wilmington, South LA(Western Ave), Hollywood, and etc. During this event you will interact with CicLAvia participants, help the hub staff set up, and instruct participants.

Senior Sundays at the Stray Cat Alliance every weekend

Every weekend the Stray Cat Alliance is open to the public, allowing them to view adoptable cats and kittens. On Sunday, they specialize in campaigning cats aged eight and older. Volunteers can assist people with finding the perfect cat for them.

Starts With One Today every Sunday

Starts With One Today is a nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles. On Sundays, this incredible organization along with the help of volunteers, giveaway supplies for the homeless in Skidrow. This opportunity requires no sign-up. Allowing any high school student to give back and gain community hours.
