Granting permission to seniors to leave campus at lunch is a serious issue many high schools face. As our senior year is slowly coming to an end, we want to receive the privilege of leaving campus during lunch to get food. Administrators may see this as a controversial issue because of the amount of responsibility that comes with it. Still, with the number of options surrounding us in such a close radius like In-n-Out, Chick-fil-A, and Sushi Q, it gives more options than only school lunch.

The idea has many positives and negatives surrounding it but as long as boundaries and rules are placed the idea should be evaluated by administrators. This could even lead to a decrease in students sneaking food onto campus. It could be considered as a “ senior privilege “ and can be revoked if students do not meet the expectations required. For students to have access to this privilege they must meet the requirements such as having a 3.0 GPA, maintaining an 85% overall attendance including absences and tardies, and students under 18 must have parental permission.

If students pick up a pattern of not returning to campus on time the privilege will be revoked. Seniors have been showing great efforts into their senior year and it can be seen as a reward for our graduating class. As we are approaching our last year and worked hard to get here I agree we deserve more privileges to celebrate our hard work. By granting seniors the privilege to leave campus during lunch, will create a relaxing environment. Schools are empowering their students to make independent and responsible decisions. Seniors will be able to embrace the luxury of having an off-campus dining opportunity.
